Getty Villa is the ideal destination to enjoy an entire day so make sure to go as comfortable as possible. This villa is actually a mansion and it is a faithful recreation of summer villas from the Roman Empire, especially inspired by the Villa of the Papyri in Herculaneum. After recent restoration, its doors have been reopened as a venue of archaeological collections.

History of Getty Villa

The name of this institution pays tribute to American businessman and philanthropist Jean Paul Getty, who provided the necessary funds and a mansion in Malibu to the J. Paul Getty Trust. In addition, he added works of art that he had been collecting since the 1930s. In 1974, the J. Paul Getty Museum was inaugurated here, and its main venue would later be moved to the Getty Center.
