No casualties reported in Tijuana after arrival of first storm in the region

6 incidents were dealt with from 6 AM to 12 PM

After the arrival of the first storm in Tijuana in the morning of Thursday, the Municipal Agency of Civil Protection has reported no casualties in the city. Rain, however, will continue to constantly fall until at least this afternoon.

Miguel Ángel Ceballos, director of Civil Protection Tijuana, explained that from 6 AM to 12 PM, a build-up between 1/4 and 0.4 inches of rain was recorded in the city, with San Antonio del Mar and Villa del Campo being the areas with the highest levels of water.

According to most recent weather forecasts, rain will continue to fall constantly until 4 PM and then it will give way to light rain and isolated showers for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

On Friday, the municipal official added, cloudy days will continue with low chances of isolated showers.

By instructions of mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, since Wednesday, a permanent session of the Municipal Council of Civil Protection was declared. Here all agencies are working in coordination to address all incidents that could be caused by rain which is estimated to last until next week.

In this first storm, by noon, Civil Protection Tijuana had dealt with 10 incidents, among them, the fall of a billboard, a fallen post, three short circuits, a collapse, two floods, a report of hanging cables, and a fallen tree.

Meanwhile, the Tijuana Firefighter Department revealed that from 6 AM to 12 PM, 6 incidents were dealt with related to this first storm. Among them, there was the fall of a billboard, an electrocuted person, garbage on fire, a vehicle catching fire, and two people injured due to falls.

In addition, they channeled ten reports to other agencies, with no casualties so far.

Staff of the Secretariat of Territorial, Urban, and Environmental Development are also working on cleaning several areas of the city and maintaining desanders.

Regarding the Secretariat of Municipal Wellbeing, since the early hours of the morning, temporary shelters were opened at SDIF Tijuana, as a primary care spot, and Unidad Deportiva Tijuana facilities. In this shelter, by 12:40 PM, 6 people, four adults and two minors, were counted as staying in this place.

The 24th Municipal Administration of Tijuana encourages people to keep doing preventive measures such as not going out if it is not necessary, not crossing streams or water currents by car or foot, and to keep an eye on weather forecast updates through official platforms.
