The tide phenomenon known as "king waves" will come back to southern California coasts next week, which is why residents and visitors are encouraged to take precautionary measures.

Increase in tides' heights, something that has been seen in the last few days, is scheduled to return to southern California due to the gravitational forces from the sun and moon, which tend to create high waves.

It is estimated that this phenomenon will occur on Thursday, January 11, with chances of it continuing until the 12th, reaching estimated heights of up to 7 feet, according to reports.

Last week, there were waves that reached 11 feet high, resulting in several multiple closures of coasts, damages to local piers, and interruptions throughout beaches in San Diego.

It is important to note that these waves are different from the ones created by winds that blow directly into the coast. This phenomenon, known as the spring tide, is related to the almost perfect alignment of the sun, the moon, and the Earth. These events, that combine spring tides with how near the moon is to the Earth, cause this type of tides and it only happens a few times every year.

For those who are planning to visit the coast, there is a warning regarding the possibility of finding flooded parking lots in the morning and exposed rocks and reefs in the afternoon, depending on one's location. People are recommended to take precautions and keep themselves informed about conditions at the coast in the next few days.
