The PedWest border crossing, known for being a practical option for those who work nearby, will resume operations with specific guidelines in order to address security concerns and the possibility of illegal crossings.

Despite its usefulness such as its fast access to San Ysidro, PedWest has experienced recurring closures, being perceived by some migrants as a way to enter illegally. After a brief open period during Christmas season, it was closed again due to these concerns.

When will it open and at what time?

Recently, authorities announced the reopening of this border crossing, with limited times from 6 AM to 2 PM, 7 days a week, starting on Thursday. This action has as a goal to make it easier for workers who work nearby to cross faster and to address security concerns.

According to the information provided by CBP, they will continue to give priority to their border security mission, responding in an adaptive manner to the evolution of this issue.

“We continue to assess security situations, adjust our operational plans, and deploy resources to maximize enforcement efforts against those noncitizens who do not use lawful pathways or processes,” CBP said and added that this initiative is looking to maintain a balance between making pedestrian crossings easier and maintaining security in the border region.
