The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, revealed the launch of the Violet Protocol in work centers of the state in order to protect female workers from labor violence and sexual harassment through the coordination between labor authorities and companies.
This is what Marina del Pilar claimed:
We are guaranteeing, together with the private sector, a safe environment for the female workers of our state. All work centers must have a protocol to protect women to address cases of violence during their working day.
Marina del Pilar also stated that "since the first day of her administration they launched cross-sectional actions because inflicting violence on a woman is the same as inflicting violence on families and society at large."
As such, the Secretary of Work and Social Welfare, Alejandro Arregui Ibarra, stated that the guiding principles of the protocol are active listening, confidentiality, respect, and to not revictimize victims. In addition, there are public policies with a gendered perspective that are being promoted by the Marina del Pilar administration.
The state official added that since they took office, they have been working to develop more public policies with a gendered perspective in working environments, prioritizing the awareness of civil servants on the importance of respecting the rights of women and girls.
Arregui spoke about the installation of a Violet Window at the Center of Work Conciliation, where one can anonymously make a report and receive guidance about their rights regarding any circumstance. In addition, the WhatsApp number 686 193 18 10, where women can be assisted by professionals and channeled to the proper authorities, has been enabled.
Meanwhile the director of the Center for the Justice of Women, Magdalena Bautista, highlighted the importance that women report when they are victims of violence at work, which will be made easier through the Violet Protocol.
