The National Survey of Jobs and Employment by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) said that in the second trimester of 2023, with an increase of 2% compared to the same time period in 2022, 62.5% of Baja Californian workers will be in the formal sector and will have social security, claimed Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda.

In addition, the state governor highlighted that Baja California will be among the four states in the country with the lowest work informality rate nationwide with 37.5%, alongside other northern states such as Coahuila, Chihuahua, and Nuevo Leon.

Marina del Pilar stated that these official figures show that in Baja California there are 1,903,781 employed people, of which 1,127,099 are in the formal sector and have access to work benefits that improve their and their family's quality of life.

For his part, the Secretary of Economy and Innovation, Kurt Ignacio Honold Morales, said that the segment who is employed the most regarding company size are employed in micro, small, and medium-sized companies (MIPYMES) which participated with 60.2% of the employed population.

In the second trimester of 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, the tertiary sector had the best results with 17,498 new jobs. The industries that stand out are social services with 14,427 employed people, followed by commerce with 12,608, and restaurants and lodging services with 8,724. Meanwhile, the primary sector had a negative outcome of 4,985 jobs; the secondary sector also had a negative result of 13,475.

On the other hand, of the 95,421 workers in the northern border, those who live in Mexico and work in the United States, 45.5% of them are in Baja California, which is a symptom of Baja Californian dynamism.

The number of unemployed people reached 42,604. This figure is lower than the one registered in the second trimester of 2022 when the number was 46,506 people. This means that this second trimester had an unemployment rate of 2.3%, while it was 2.5% in 2022.

Partially working people, who are people who can work more than their current job allows, lowered their participation with 3.3%, while it was 3.8% in 2022. This means that it is third place among the states, in both trimesters.

To conclude, Honold Morales said that the current administration is working to make tools accessible to entrepreneurs and PYMES so that they can register in the formal economy. They are specifically informing them about the processes and advantages that it has, as well as the fact that aid and financing are available to those who are formal or who commit themselves to become formal within a particular timeframe.
