Flying from San Diego? Airport issues warning regarding closed streets in the next few days

Caltrans will reroute traffic to the east of Interstate 8

San Diego officials have issued a statement reminding the community that starting tomorrow, September 8 at 9 PM, Caltrans will reroute traffic to the east of Interstate 8. This means that if you are trying to get to the airport, you can get to the airport by taking southbound State Route 163. This situation will remain the same at least until Monday at 5 AM.

On the other hand, if you're going to the airport from service streets south of Interstate 8, an Interstate 5 lane to the south will remain permanently open, but it will only be accessible from on-ramps south of Interstate 8 for limited traffic.

Due to these circumstances, San Diego International Airport recommends travelers to plan their trips ahead as traffic and delays are possible. They recommend people going to the airport to start their trip 2 hours in advance to avoid any issues.

In addition, another closure is expected on the northern side of Interstate 5 starting on September 29, which will begin on State Route 15 and it will only have one lane available for limited local traffic.

These closures are necessary as repair work is being carried out at the State Route 163 bridge in Downtown San Diego. Plan your trip in advance and avoid setbacks.
