After tropical storm Hilary, the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, continued her checking and supervision work to address the damages caused in the entire state. With direct communication with state and federal authorities, she has been providing aid and support to all people, especially most vulnerable groups.

The state governor spoke about the support by the government of Mexico, led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, through the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), and the National Guard (GN), which were deployed in the seven municipalities of the state to apply Plan DN III to carry out several actions to support society after this weather phenomenon.

As part of her activities, Governor Marina del Pilar visited the municipality of San Felipe and held a meeting with the president of the Municipal Foundational Council, José Luis Dagnino López, who highlighted the support by the government of Baja California. He also spoke about the need to strengthen infrastructure in the tourist area of the port in order to prevent flooding, which is why a work plan will be implemented by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Territory Redesign (SIDURT).

Regarding incidents caused by the storm, the governor explained that most of them were related to electric energy incidents, affecting a great number of people especially in the municipalities of Mexicali and San Felipe. However, on Monday afternoon, significant progress has been shown regarding repair work by the Federal Commission of Electricity (CFE), which means this issue will be resolved as soon as possible.

On the other hand, the governor highlighted that, regarding the more than 100 shelters activated by state and municipal authorities, more than 500 people were sheltered. They had a safe space during the rain and winds that reached around 100 kilometers per hour inland and up to 150 kilometers per hour in Isla de Cedros, where cleaning work has already begun.

The governor pointed out that, though Baja California experienced Hilary as a tropical storm and not a hurricane, this event represents an opportunity to strengthen prevention protocols in the state and to raise awareness in the population regarding home maintenance, the importance of keeping oneself away from risky areas during a weather phenomenon, keeping oneself safe, and not traveling on roads when authorities don't recommend it.

Lastly, she highlighted the importance of addressing the permanent recommendations that are made by the State Coordination of Civil Protection, and said that, through SIDURT, there is a plan to repair infrastructure damaged by rain and wind, so that it can operate normally again to benefit traffic flow and Baja Californians' daily life.
