The mayor of Tijuana, Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, stated that her administration is alert to address any issues that could occur due to the arrival of Hurricane Hilary in the region, taking care of supervising the work and evaluating preventive actions in all government areas.

This Friday and after the pre-alert declaration approved by the Municipal Council of Civil Protection, the head of the 24th Municipal Administration went to the Municipal Center of Emergency Operations to reveal updated information about the forecast and the measures taken to subdue incidents.

Rain will arrive in the city on Saturday evening and even if weather conditions downgrade, there will be significant rain on Sunday above all, with at least 34 millimeters and winds reaching up to 45 kilometers per hour.

As such, the mayor stated that they are working in coordination with the state government and all agencies of this administration to address risk situations; in addition, maintenance was given to the desander and drainage systems and temporary shelters were opened, which will be available on Friday.

"I want to tell you, Tijuana native, that we are working 24/7 and I ask you that you help us take care of you. Take precautions. Regardless if the storm weakens or not, it is important to maximize prevention," Caballero Ramírez emphasized.

The Secretary of the Interior of Tijuana, Miguel Ángel Bujanda Ruiz, claimed that starting with the pre-alert declaration due to Hurricane Hilary, guards were established in all government areas and the nine delegations who "are ready to deal with emergencies and are ready to safeguard all Tijuana natives."

For his part, Miguel Ángel Ceballos Ramírez, head of the Civil Protection Agency of Tijuana, explained that they are monitoring spots of active landslides and urged people living in high-risk areas to go to temporary shelters while the storm is happening, so that they don't have to be rescued.

He added that rescue teams from the Firefighter Department and the Civil Protection Agency will have permanent guards, while also urging people to take precautions and to not cross water currents on foot or by car.

Regarding the city's infrastructure, Juan Enrique Bautista Corona, Secretary of Territory, Urban, and Environmental Development of Tijuana (SDTUA) explained that they are coordinating with business chambers and the College of Civil Engineers of Tijuana, as they will provide support with additional machinery to clean affected areas.

Mayor Montserrat Caballero reminded the population that temporary shelters will be available at Unidad Deportiva Tijuana, Unidad Deportiva CREA, Unidad Deportiva Mariano Matamoros, and Unidad Deportiva Salvatierra. As a first aid space, the facilities of Sistema para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (SDIF) on Avenida Insurgentes will also be available.

She also encouraged people to report risky situations to 9-1-1 and download the Botón de Emergencias or Botón Morado apps so that they can receive prompt assistance. She also encouraged people to keep an eye on official statements released on the digital platforms of Protección Civil Tijuana.
