On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “El Taconazo” located at Av. Centro Comercial 17210, Otay Constituyentes. On this occasion, he tried two tacos: a birria taco and a head taco, both priced at $2 dollars ($36 pesos).
Birria Taco
This taco has beef birria, onion, cilantro, red salsa, and it is served on two corn tortillas. Before he tried it, Chef Danny said that the meat had a very good color, and this meant that it could have a good flavor. Due to the amount of meat in the taco, he said that it was “stuffed” even though the tortillas were small.
Before he took his first bite, Chef Danny was surprised due to how spicy the bird beak’s chile salsa was; he was even able to spot pieces of the pepper in it. The spiciness level was so high that it made our host cry. He claimed that it made this taco “uneatable” because it overshadowed all the other ingredients. When he took his second bite, he was able to detect that the protein had a very soft texture and good humidity. The tortillas were store bought so they were not a highlight and they were very thin. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.6.
Price: $2 dollars ($36 pesos)
Head Taco
This taco has beef head, onion, cilantro, charred green salsa, and it is served on two store bought corn tortillas. Before he took his first bite, Chef Danny said that he was afraid of trying it due to his previous experience, and this taco’s salsa made it seem like it would be very spicy.
When he tried it, Chef Danny discovered that the spiciness was not that intense, and it did have a good flavor which allowed the meat to be tasted. He added that it is strange that meat has a good flavor in this kind of taco and on this occasion, the protein was the highlight. In the salsa, he was able to taste the Mexican husk tomato and the jalapeño pepper, which is why this taco gets a rating of 7.6.
