Governor Marina del Pilar was present at the second regional meeting of governors on touristic matters which took place in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, whose goal is to strengthen tourism in the states that are next to the Gulf of California.

In front of governors Víctor Castro of Baja California Sur, Alfonso Durazo of Sonora, Rubén Rocha of Sinaloa, and Miguel Ángel Navarro of Nayarit, Marina del Pilar highlighted the importance that visitors have regarding the gross domestic product not only in the state of Baja California, but the entire country. This is why the state is currently receiving above average profits from tourism, as this money will continue to strengthen the livelihood of thousands of families who depend on tourist activities.

To complement this claim, the governor said that since 2022 Baja Californian tourism, thanks to the great variety of its gastronomic offer, got back to pre-pandemic levels. She gave as an example that the number of passengers arriving at airports grew by 30%, with the same situation occurring on state highways.

Regarding this, the governor also explained that the arrival of cruise ships in the port of Ensenada grew by 24.3% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2019. Meanwhile, air connectivity and hotel occupancy in the state also increased.

As such, Marina del Pilar emphasized the importance of increasing air and sea connectivity between the five states and create multi-destination touristic products that allow for the increase of stays and expenses by travelers that are staying for more than a week.

Several things have been planned such as ecotourism cruise ships, collaboration in comprehensive services of tourism assistance through organizations such as Ángeles Verdes, and the promotion of electric car equipment to assist the American market.

With these activities, the governors of these five states agreed to keep dialogue open and coordinate between their administrations in order to increase touristic attractions for regional, national, and international tourists.
