Today on April 3, 2023, after the landslide that occurred on the Playas de Tijuana highway, at the level of Cañón del Matadero, the toll booth there was made free by Federal Roads and Bridges, Revenues, and Connected Services (CAPUFE).
Mayor Montserrat Caballero met with the governor of Baja California Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, and the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, Jorge Nuño Lara, where they shared the need for this action to be undertaken in order to protect citizens’ safety, as the goal of having viable alternate routes is to avoid weight and vibrations in the landslide area.
The CAPUFE toll booth located in the limits of Playas de Tijuana has been freed by authorities from the three levels of government in both directions, i.e., it is now temporarily free for 6 months, while the landslide repair project is underway.
The mayor reiterated that efforts and equipment from the 24th Municipal Administration will be used in order to work together to benefit Tijuana natives, always prioritizing safeguarding drivers and pedestrians’ safety.
At this meeting, the following people were present: Secretary of the Interior of Baja California, Catalino Zavala Márquez, the General Secretary of the Municipality, Miguel Ángel Bujanda Ruíz, the Secretary of Urban and Environmental Territorial Development, Juan Enrique Bautista Corona, among other federal and state authorities.
It should be noted that authorities agreed that communication will be continuous to give results in an organized, proper, and prompt manner.
