In order to restore and transform road infrastructures and speed up mobility in Tijuana and other municipalities of Baja California, Baja Californian Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda presented a new program of road maintenance, which is expected to begin work on March 31 with an initial goal of repairing potholes in 19 of the city’s main roads. However, the goal for 2023 is to repair more than 1,200,000 square meters of the state’s highways and freeways.

In the 71st edition of “Wednesday Morning Press Conference with Marina del Pilar”, the governor reaffirmed her administration’s commitment with the people of the state, prioritizing the implementation of necessary projects to respond to citizens’ demands for better roads, in order to restore damages created by recent rains.

In her message, Governor Marina del Pilar stated that an investment of 30 million pesos will be carried out so that, starting on Friday, March 31 to September, 19 roads are repaired.

“First of all, we are repairing potholes and asphaltic recycling in 251,313 square meters in streets all over the municipality,” she said.

In addition, there are other public project programs in development, which will restore more than 460,000 square meters of roads just in Tijuana and 897,000 square meters in the coastal area. In total, this repair work will cover more than 1,2 million square meters of streets statewide.

Projects of the RESPIRA program are also continuing, such as the Casa Blanca bridge in the Tijuana - Rosarito 2000 corridor, where eastern and western piling layers are being built, as well as the central, northern return, and southern bridges. Retaining walls are also ready; alongside a 50% progress in tunnel excavation, as well as parapets and the strengthening of the pedestrian bridge. This represents a global progress of 60%, which is estimated to be concluded in July 2023.

Additionally, as part of her comprehensive public policy which is looking to create more and better opportunities for the city and all of its residents, Marina del Pilar pointed out that there is important progress in the Alamar and Terán Boulevard road node, where perforations and piling cast are being worked on, in addition to the construction of steel tube columns.

“With this project, we are allocating an investment of more than 428 million pesos. Current progress is 32% of the entire project and it will be finished by next October,” she said.

Lastly, the state governor said that these road infrastructure projects will respond effectively to citizens’ urgent demands, in order to contribute positively to the wellbeing of the people in a dynamic and multicultural border, which has managed to face adversity to boost the development of the state.
