Las Vegas is one of the most visited cities in the United States thanks to its famous casinos, tourist zones, and nightlife. However, for those who live on the other side of the border, they have to take a long highway journey or a shorter one by airplane. However, a new bullet train project will connect Los Angeles with Las Vegas in order to decrease travel times as well as highway traffic and CO2 emissions.
This is the first high-speed railway system in the United States by Brightline West, and it will be a bullet train with a 218-mile line between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. It will be a parallel route with Interstate 15 (I-15) highway and it will have stations at the iconic Las Vegas Strip, Rancho Cucamonga, Apple Valley, and Hesperia, California.
According to Brightline West, this high-speed transportation service between Los Angeles and Las Vegas will significantly decrease travel times. Train travel will take approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, which represents a time reduction when compared to highway traveling where it takes around 4 hours or more than 8 hours if the trip begins in San Diego.
The High-Speed Rail Labor Coalition said in a statement:
The High-Speed Rail Labor Coalition is proud to be in partnership with Brightline West in this historic project. Americans want high-speed rail, and Brightline West and the High-Speed Rail Labor Coalition will deliver. Brightline West will be the most elegant travel by rail experience you can have in America, and it will be the catalyst for America’s renaissance of travel by high-speed rail. The High-Speed Rail Labor Coalition is ready to bring this transformative transportation project to Americans. Let’s get to work.
Besides representing great progress regarding travel in the United States, it will be a great source of jobs as, according to the statement, it will provide around 35,000 jobs due to its construction. Once it is finished, it is expected that it will provide 1,000 permanent job positions once it begins operations; $10 million dollars will be invested and its economic impact will exceed this investment.
This train will have a completely electric system free of emissions, which will make it one of the most ecological transportation methods in the United States as it will eliminate around 400,000 tons of CO2 every year. It is expected that this railway line opens in 2026 or 2027 and it should be noted that the construction between Las Vegas and Victoriaville has already been approved.
