On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tecate, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Birria El Pueblita” located at C. Eufracio Santana 128, Romero, 21410. On this occasion, he tried two tacos: a birria taco priced at $1.35 dollars ($25 pesos) and a quesabirria priced at $2.45 dollars ($45 pesos).
Quesabirria
This taco has beef birria, purple onion, cilantro, beans, cheese, red salsa, and is served on two handmade corn tortillas. The first thing Chef Danny highlighted is that just by seeing the beans he knew that it would have great flavor.
When he tried it, Chef Danny claimed that the salsa was spicy, the tortillas were handmade, and they had a good maize flavor. In addition, the meat had an intense flavor and a soft texture. The beans were different to the ones they normally serve in this type of tacos as they were stewed. According to Chef Danny, this created a burst of flavor from its first bite. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.8.
Price: $2.45 dollars ($45 pesos)
Birria Taco
This taco has beef birria, purple onion, coriander, red salsa, beans, and is served on two store bought corn tortillas. Something to note about this taco is that both tortillas were fried quite well, which is an option that birrierias give when serving their tacos.
When he tried it, Chef Danny highlighted that this birria was very loaded with flavor because the chili adobo and the spices were intense. The fact that the tortilla was fried well gave it a “good push”; however, he could tell that they were store bought due to their smaller size and because the maize had less intensity. When he took a second bite, the spiciness of the salsa took our host by surprise. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.2.
Price: $1.35 dollars ($25 pesos)
