Governor Marina del Pilar reaffirms her commitment to strengthening the binational relation between Mexico and the United States

The governor of Baja California emphasized the success obtained by checkpoints at the Tijuana-San Ysidro port of entry, as well as the progress regarding the construction of the Otay II port of entry

Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the governor of Baja California, reiterated the willingness of the state administration to apply strategies to improve links between Mexico and the United States, mainly those that can show concrete actions regarding security and streamlining at the different ports of entry in the region.

The state governor supported the statements made by the Consul General of the United States in Tijuana, Thomas E. Reott, who celebrated 200 years of US-Mexico relations and recognized the support by Mexican authorities so that crossings can be more efficient.

Reott spoke about the checkpoints between Tijuana and San Ysidro on frequent traveler lanes, where there is coordination with the Government of Baja California, the Government of Mexico, and the Municipal Administration of Tijuana, which have had important results in order to benefit international security.

“This effort benefits both countries to make legal trade and traffic of people much easier through this critical area for our binational community,” the diplomatic representative said.

Marina del Pilar highlighted that this initiative has contributed to improving the coordination of a fundamental area for the life of both countries, as it is a border that has crossings from all over the world, especially during Christmas season where flow increases significantly.

Marina del Pilar also spoke about the several projects where she is collaborating with both federal governments to improve border infrastructure, being a concrete example the construction of the Otay II port of entry, which will make a difference with faster crossings, a decrease in pollution, and a strengthening of binational trade.

Lastly, the governor pointed out that the construction of a better binational relation is essential for Baja California as a border state. She underscored that thousands of people interact on both sides of the border every day and she reaffirmed that the state government will look for the development of a kinder environment so that people can work together for the wellbeing of both communities.
