Civil Protection asks people not to use fireworks during Christmas holidays in Tijuana

Any incident that involves fireworks should be reported to the 911 emergency number

During Christmas celebrations, which will take place in the following days, the Coordination of Civil Protection (CEPC) recommends avoiding the use of fireworks in order to prevent fatal accidents, especially when they are handled by children. In addition, they upset pets who are sensitive to loud explosions.

It is necessary, especially during Christmas season, to promote a culture of risk and accident prevention where all people participate, as stated by the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda in order to have a beautiful Christmas filled with peace and harmony.

As such, the head of the Secretariat of the Interior (SGG) of Baja California, Catalino Zavala Márquez, has instructed that, through CEPC, recommendations be made to prevent accidents derived from the use of fireworks, as well as to keep constant surveillance whenever cases occur.

CEPC Coordinator, Salvador Cervantes Hernández, recommended to the population at large to not buy, sell, store, transport, or use fireworks, as they can cause burns, mutilations, hearing problems, and irritation in eyes and breathing for people who use them.

He added that they can cause anxiety on people on the autism spectrum, people with mental health issues, babies, small children, and pets. In addition, they can cause fires.

The official warned that, in case anyone has an accident due to fireworks, they should immediately go to the emergency room and avoid using homemade remedies. He invited the community to report any incident to 9-1-1, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
