Baja Californian Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda and the head of the Secretariat of Foreign Relations (SRE), Marcelo Ebrard, led the inauguration of a passport office established at Tijuana International Airport “Abelardo L. Rodríguez”, which will allow documents to be processed in order to benefit all travelers who come here.

It should be noted that this office, where passports can be renewed quickly, was developed thanks to a combination of efforts by the federation, the state government, and the private sector, since a huge part of the project was an investment by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP).

“Tijuana’s Airport is one of the most important airports in Mexico because it has the best services. We have CBX, which helps people to go from one country to the other very quickly, we have the facilities, and more flights. It has been demonstrated that airports that work are great promoters of economic development and all kinds of investments,” Ebrard said.

The federal official highlighted that the project is a good example of the coordination between the Government of Mexico, the Baja Californian government led by Marina del Pilar, and the private sector, all in order to improve the conditions of all people.

During this visit, the governor and the secretary toured the facilities, unveiled a plaque, and revealed information about this office whose goal is to make travelers’ experiences much easier.

For her part, the governor remembered that last March, staff from the state government and the Secretariat of Foreign Relations (SRE) laid the first stone at this office which, just as promised, was inaugurated. It is the only office that is inside an airport besides the one found at the facilities of Mexico City’s International Airport "Benito Juárez".

“This new unit that opens today will bring huge benefits to thousands of travelers that go through this city who are now able to carry out their passport processes at this airport. This office is completely equipped to issue not only emergency passports, but also other types of documents,” she said.

Marina del Pilar highlighted the efficiency of SRE led by Secretary Marcelo Ebrard, as it has permanently and thoroughly fulfilled its commitments with Baja California, which is especially relevant due to the state’s border status condition.

In addition, the governor acknowledged Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) for their commitment and willingness in supporting this large-scale project, showing that their organization completely supports society.

“Regarding our government, we are providing the staff that will handle business at this office and we will pay their salary and benefits. Be certain that this office will have everything necessary to provide excellent care and efficiency to all families if they require it,” she highlighted.

With these objectives, Marina del Pilar and Marcelo Ebrard signed a collaboration agreement where they formalized the assignments that will take place at this office.

Emergency appointments can help passengers prevent missing flights in case they did not realize that their passports had expired or were close to expiring.

“Our Tijuana is the most dynamic and busiest border in the world and the Secretariat of Foreign Relations is answering the call, the demands and requirements of a city with so many special characteristics,” Governor Marina del Pilar concluded.

As part of his visit, Secretary Ebrard Casaubón participated, alongside the Governor, at a meeting with students in Eastern Tijuana. They also held meetings with the business sector and representatives of customs agencies interested in strengthening the economy and promoting international trade in Baja California.
