On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos Lupita” located at David Alfaro Siqueiros, Zona Urbana Río Tijuana. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a carne asada taco and an adobada taco, both priced at $1.5 dollars ($30 pesos).
Carne Asada Taco
This taco has carne asada (grilled beef), onion, cilantro, charred sauce, guacamole, and is served on a handmade corn tortilla. The first thing to note was the thickness of the tortilla as well as its similar size to tortillas used for dishes.
When he took his first bite, Chef Danny stated that though the maize flavor was subtle, the tortilla’s thickness gave it a good texture. The meat had a good marinade and a very soft texture. The salsa was lightly spicy but with a lot of flavor. The only negative thing about this taco was the guacamole, which wasn’t completely avocado flesh as it had been diluted. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.3.
Price: $1.5 dollars ($30 pesos)
Adobada Taco
This taco has adobada meat, onion, cilantro, bird beak’s chile sauce, and is served on a handmade corn tortilla. There were three things to highlight about this taco: there was no avocado, the meat’s color made it seem like it would have a good flavor, and the salsa looked spicy.
When he took his first bite, Chef Danny confirmed that the sauce was very spicy as it only had bird’s beak chile as its ingredient. The meat tricked him as, despite having a very thick cut, it was lacking in flavor and had big pieces of fat. In this taco, the main highlight was the corn tortilla which is why this taco gets a rating of 6.8.
Price: $1.5 dollars ($30 pesos)
Tacos Lupita is not registered on Google Maps, but you can find them at this location:
