Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana met with CBP to develop strategies to improve border wait times

Ensuring the safety of port of entry zones was a key topic of discussion.

Mayor Burgueño and Pedro Montejo, Secretary of Economic Development of Tijuana, met with Sidney Aki, Director of Field Operations, and Mariza Marín, San Ysidro Port Director for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency to strengthen collaboration between the City of Tijuana and CBP.

"We are working with CBP on several initiatives to improve border wait times. We have already implemented a coordinated safety operation with the Mexican Institute of Migration and the Mexican National Guard to build public trust and improve security south of the ports of entry during the holiday season. These efforts aim to guarantee a more secure border operation with a permanent presence of police authorities adjacent to the border," the Mayor explained.

Improving coordination with U.S. authorities is a priority of the City of Tijuana and prioritizing cross border relations so agreements can be reached that address shared interests and benefit our cross border community of San Diego and Tijuana.
