Today, the Municipal System of Tijuana Theme Parks (SIMPATT) isolated hens, roosters, and chickens living in Morelos Park in order to prevent the spread of AH5N1 bird flu. These isolated birds will be put down.

The National Services of Sanitation, Safety, and Agrifood Quality (SENASICA) of Mexico activated a safeguarding protocol for all of the park’s chickens, which means that, after being caught, they must be put down in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

“We have been working for two days and, according to SENASICA, we have acted in record time since whether the park can be opened to the public again depends on this. What is important is that people know that there is no risk of infection in humans, there is no need to worry, and we are only asking people to take the necessary precautions for flu season,” the head of SIMPATT, Israel Villafuerte Zamora, stated.

Last October 16, several ducks and 7 hens were tested. 6 of them came back positive for the AH5N1 virus which causes bird flu. This quick reaction will prevent the disease from spreading within the same species, as there is only a minimal chance that it spreads to other kinds of fauna or humans.

On the other hand, Parque de la Amistad, which is also under the jurisdiction of SIMPATT, will not close as there are no positive cases of bird flu.
