Former mayor of Tijuana Arturo González Cruz stole more than $108 million dollars in his past administration

There were at least 49 cases with irregularities and illegal collections during the last municipal administration, with financial damages to the city of $108,558,120 dollars

The Arturo González Cruz administration, in charge of the Tijuana municipality from 2019 to 2020, has been flunked, according to results obtained by the Supreme Audit Office.

Last Tuesday, October 11, 2022, a series of compromising results were revealed through judgment number 189 of the Commission of Inspection of Public Spending of the Congress of Baja California.

According to data revealed by the Superior Audit Office, during the government of Arturo González Cruz, financial damages to the city of Tijuana reached $2,167,640,000 pesos ($108,558,120 dollars).

Punto Norte states that at least $1,969,000,000 pesos ($98,621,106 dollars) were allocated to payments for construction of public projects that were never completed, incorrect collection of property payments, and the unjustified payment of millions of pesos.

Another unjustified expenditure, of $119,000,000 pesos ($5,960,341 dollars), was for medical lane passes for the San Ysidro port of Entry that guarantees an immediate border crossing into the Unites States. This expenditure was overlooked by González Cruz, stating that the collection was “canceled”. However, the Superior Audit office says that this incident was carried out illegally, contrary to what González Cruz is saying.

These reports revealed 49 cases where the administration, led by the now-member of the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico, is responsible. These incidents include financial damages by omission and debt being time-barred, as well as unjustified spending of hundreds of millions of pesos.

Damages caused by González Cruz, along with his cabinet, occurred in several areas without any justification and, so far, with total impunity. Not only through public projects, but also regarding collections and omissions of collections in several agencies.
