Tacos are some of the most versatile and famous foods in the world. With its prehispanic Mexican roots, this dish that consists of a corn tortilla and an endless number of fillings, has crossed all borders to delight the palates of the entire world. As such, Yelp made an article on their website titled “Top 100 Taco Spots in America”.

The Mexican population in the United States is quite large and both its traditions and flavors have gotten quite popular in America. That is why Yelp was able to make this ranked list which was led by the San Diegan local establishment: “Ed Fernandez Restaurant Birrieria”.

Although each Mexican region has its own version of the popular street food (goat in Jalisco, beef in Tijuana), Jose insists that the Fernandezes’ birria is unique. It features slow-stewed beef simmered with California chilis and smoky guajillo (another type of chili pepper), a “potent” hot salsa, and a secret ingredient: love. “You can’t buy [that] in the store,” says Jose. “You either have it or you don’t.”

This birrieria is famous for its “Quesotaco Extremo”, one of clients’ favorites made out of handmade corn tortillas, a good amount of birria meat, cheese, onion, cilantro, and their signature hot sauce. This establishment claims that their birria is unique because their meat is simmered with peppers, their hot salsa is “potent” and their main ingredient, the one thing nobody can buy, is love.

This is a list of the Top 100 taco locations, according to Yelp. They identified businesses in the restaurants and food categories with a large concentration of reviews mentioning “taco,” then ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews that mentioned this word. If a chain appeared on the list more than once, they only included the highest rated location. It should be noted that the first three places were led by the state of California.
