In order to promote Baja Californians’ rights to adequate housing that can fulfill their families’ needs, Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar signed with Carlos Martínez Velázquez, General Director of the National Institute of the Housing Funds for Workers (INFONAVIT), an agreement that streamlines the paperwork and signing processes for housing.
The agreement, signed at the Executive Branch building’s facilities of Baja California in Mexicali, states that 130,000 Baja Californians will be able to transform the housing credits they get from minimum wages to pesos. They will also have the ability to freeze their monthly instalments as long as financing lasts. This means important savings and renews people’s ability to obtain a home in the state.
“I want to acknowledge developers, because it is very important that they are able to give an alternative offer to Baja Californians. It is very important to have the support of all housing developers, so that they make a plan to also create social housing and notice that sector that also needs to have property. We are putting our Heart Above All so that all workers and their families have a home, and we are searching with INFONAVIT these great opportunities that exist so that they can accomplish it,” the state governor highlighted on her message to Baja Californians.
For his part, Martínez Velázquez considered that “Baja California’s families don’t have to worry anymore about what’s going to happen in January or how much they are going to pay, because their monthly instalment will remain frozen.” He also thanked the collaborative work by Governor Marina del Pilar, which is why Baja California is a national example for workers so that they have access to proper housing with all necessary public utilities. Part of this work, the federal official said, is the creation of a State Housing Plan, a unique plan nationwide.
Lastly, Marina del Pilar stated that as part of the agreement the State Housing Plan will be updated. One of its main pillars will be the joint effort with INFONAVIT to make administrative processes easier regarding registry and cadastral matters. This will also simplify housing improvement and self-building programs, among other actions.
