On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos Varios Arturo’s” located at Blvd. Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada s/n Zona Urbana Río Tijuana. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a stuffed pepper taco and a milanesa taco priced at $1.5 dollars ($30 pesos).
Milanesa Taco
This taco has milanesa (meat breaded cutlets), red rice, beans, green sauce and is served on two corn tortillas. The first thing to note about this taco is that its green salsa is the one that is used for rib tacos. When he took his first bite, Chef Danny was pleasantly surprised.
Chef Danny also claimed that even though the taco looks quite simple to the point that he thought that the meat was going to be hard, when he tried it, he realized that it was quite soft, with a subtle breaded taste that didn’t overshadow the other ingredients. He claimed that the sauce helped to give it a proper level of sourness to envelop all the ingredients. The rice was a little overcooked and the beans had a very liquid texture, however, the way they preserved the corn tortillas kept them soft. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.2.
Price: $1.5 dollars ($30 pesos)
Stuffed Pepper Taco
This taco has a battered pepper stuffed with cheese, red rice, beans, and is served on two corn tortillas. At first glance, the battered pepper looked only halfway done according to our host, but he said that what was important is that it had a good flavor, especially the cheese. He noticed that it tended to create a long string due to how melted it was.
When he took his first bite, Chef Danny said how weird it was that this type of pepper was spicy, however, it was "spicy, but tolerable". The battered pepper added some sweet touches, which our host did not really like because it made it taste too much like flour hotcakes. The cheese had quite a good texture and this is why this taco gets a rating of 8.0.
Price: $1.5 dollars ($30 pesos)
