Wednesday afternoon, August 31st, a forest fire began in the Barret area, California, very close to Tecate and the international port of entry.

Due to this, authorities decided to suspend border crossing activities on Wednesday afternoon, Thursday, as well as this Friday.

The Tecate Port of Entry usually operates from 6 AM to 10 PM: the “Tecate border crossing will remain closed tonight (Sept 1) and not re-open at the usual 6 am tomorrow due to #Border32Fire. CBP continues to work with fire officials to wait for conditions for a safe re-opening,” CBP San Diego said in a statement on Thursday.

On the other hand, authorities have told users that if they need to cross they should do so from the Otay or San Ysidro ports of entry.

Meanwhile, CALFIRE San Diego, who are in charge of containing the fire, released the following update at 6:40 AM on Friday, September 2.

“Fire remains 4,438 acres and is now 20% contained. Some evacuation orders were lifted yesterday.” This represents great progress, since yesterday, it was only 5% contained.
