“Taquería Taconazo" at La Cacho in Tijuana disappoints for their mini tacos and lack of flavor

The tortillas at this taqueria are small though they are made in two different ways

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Taquería Taconazo” located at Av. Guanajuato 2416 Col. Madero (Cacho). Here he tried two tacos: an asada taco and a tripe taco, both priced at $1.6 dollars ($32 pesos).

Asada Taco

This taco has carne asada (grilled beef), guacamole, onion, cilantro, red sauce and is served on a handmade corn tortilla. The first thing Chef Danny noticed was the tortilla’s size which is similar to adobada tacos. This tortilla did not look as if it was store bought, but its thickness was quite slim.

When he took his first bite, Chef Danny claimed that even though the size is small, one can tell that the tortilla was made here. The meat had a very neutral taste and one couldn’t savor any marinated or seasoned flavor. It also had several pieces of fat, which, being so big, was not tasty at all. The guacamole was quite acidic and the sauce also had a neutral taste. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.3.

Price: $1.6 dollars ($32 pesos)

Tripe Taco

This taco has tripe, onion, cilantro, green charred sauce, and is served on two packaged corn tortillas. Before trying it, Chef Danny said that just by looking at it the taco looked quite greasy. Its size was also so small that he called it a “two-bite taco”. The sauce color, however, did look quite good.

When he took his first bite, our host claimed that though the salsa had a good taste and one could taste the charred ingredients, its spiciness level was around 7/10. The tripe surprised our host since it wasn’t chewy or dry, but he would have preferred it if it had been crunchy outside and soft inside. It was very similar to pig maw.

Besides its small size, the tortilla seemed drenched in grease both on its inner and outer sides. Chef Danny also said that the taco was quite heavy due to the amount of grease and, due to this, one’s palate can easily be saturated due to the amount of fat in each bite. The salsa was the definite highlight here. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.9.
