After Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s visit, Baja Californian Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda shared that there is close coordination and excellent work dynamics with the government of the Mexican President to address issues such as water.
The state governor stated that, during the last presidential visit, the Baja Californian administration has received unconditional support from President López Obrador and his administration. This has resulted in permanent dialogue with the heads of the institutions that are in charge of dealing with water issues in our country, which will strengthen responses to crisis caused by the current drought affecting the Colorado River.
Marina del Pilar underscored that, by signing Act 328 of the International Commission of Borders and Water (CILA), attended by the head of the Secretariat of Water Management, Treatment, and Protection (SEPROA) Armando Fernández Samaniego, an unprecedented investment will be made between Mexican and US governments. It will mainly focus on the treatment of the Tijuana River that will allow for a greater water refinement between both nations.
Ávila Olmeda reiterated that Act 328, named the “Sanitation Infrastructure Projects in San Diego, California - Tijuana, Baja California for Immediate Implementation and for Future Development”, is an essential agreement between the Government of Mexico and the Government of the United States, which is also completely endorsed by the Government of Baja California since water is a fundamental right for all people.
Meanwhile, Fernández Samaniego stated that water treatment is a mandatory activity that must be done in order for all of us to live in a healthy environment with a sustainable future. It will continue to be carried out as the urban area of the coastal zone grows, which is why the work by Governor Marina del Pilar has been a boost in order to build commitments with a binational focus.
