Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, Baja Californian Governor, launched the first project of the statewide RESPIRA program which begins with the expansion, modernization, and adaptation of Islas Agrarias Boulevard, located in eastern Mexicali. This project covers around 3,8 kilometers that will streamline the mobility of people living in this area with four lanes.
In her speech, the state governor stated that the project launched this Thursday is the first of seven that will be carried out in Mexicali as part of the RESPIRA program, with an investment well above $1,3 billion pesos. $211 million of these will be allocated for this specific project.
“This project is something that neighbors have requested a lot. This is an area that has grown considerably during the last few years,” she said, adding that this project will reduce traffic flow on this road for up to 25 minutes.
It should be noted that regarding concerns by neighbors and COBACH Jose Vasconcelos students’ parents, Marina del Pilar instructed the Secretary of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Territory Redesign, Arturo Espinoza Jaramillo, to include a pedestrian bridge in the project. This will safeguard the lives and wellbeing of hundreds of students. The adaptation of two kilometers lengthwise of a drain and the construction of sidewalks, access points, and traffic signs will also be included.
Espinoza Jaramillo added that two more projects will be launched soon in the capital of Baja California. One of these will be at Gómez Morín Boulevard and the other one will be the expansion of CETYS Boulevard. Both projects will begin once the proper administrative processes are completed.
At this event, members of the community, Baja California state representative, Victor Hugo Navarro, and Martha Ramírez, President of the Residential Committee, were all present.
