In order to strengthen strategies and public policies that contribute to the security of inhabitants in northeastern Mexico, Baja California Governor, Marina del Pilar was part of the Second Operative Meeting “Región Mar de Cortés” along with other northeastern governors: Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío for Baja California Sur; Rubén Rocha Moya for Sinaloa, and Alfonso Durazo Montaño for Sonora.

Marina del Pilar, along with the governors of the Pacific Alliance, highlighted the importance of unity to coordinate strategies and efforts to ensure peace in every home of the region.

In this meeting held in the city of Mazatlán in Sonora, strategies were reviewed along with the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), and the National Guard (GN), with permanent coordination and collaboration with the state corporations of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, and Sinaloa.

In her speech, Ávila Olmeda spoke about the importance of working together with a common purpose, after a year of achieving an alliance focused on the development and wellbeing of everyone.

“Today, for the first time in history, states that are a part of the Cortes Sea and the Northern Pacific areas don’t talk to each other in isolation, but as a mega coastal region where we share strategies and solutions,” she said.

She emphasized that states that are part of the Sea of Cortes and Northern Pacific coastline have a historic opportunity to highly optimize the advantages of being so close, developing a future agenda that improves the quality of life not only of the residents today, but also for future generations.

She also highlighted the willingness of the government of Mexico, led by the President of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador to support authentically and permanently the development actions of the states of northeastern Mexico.

“Our geographical position gives us enormous competitive advantages as a coast corridor that we are optimizing. But this geographical position and shared coastline also comes with risks and joint challenges that we are addressing together as a team. Our focus on security matters combines solid work of intelligence supported by a high level of technology, but at the same time, a deep strategy of prevention and social assistance of the roots of the issue,” Marina del Pilar stated.

“With this goal in mind, the use of information technologies has been amplified, setting up highway arcs at the borderline entries of each federal state, which will help to optimize regional intelligence tasks. Specifically referring to Baja California, nine street arcs were set up in Mexicali, three in Tecate, two in Tijuana, two in Rosarito, and one in Ensenada. We are restoring and refurbishing surveillance centers in San Felipe and San Quintin. There are also 4,000 surveillance-video cameras distributed strategically in the state,” she also said.

“It is clear to us that we are a safer region, where the interexchange of information and intelligence regional work is working. The support that our President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has given our states is total and the coordination work is permanent. The Mexican Army, the Mexican Navy, and the National Guard are all present and carry out operatives in our states,” she concluded.
