Today on June 22, the Governor of Baja California Marina del Pilar, Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López Hernández, and the Secretary of Citizen Security and Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, held a meeting in Tijuana. At this meeting, the presidents of the Business Council of Tijuana and Ensenada were also present.
The issues discussed were mainly water shortages, migration phenomena, and security. For his part, Francisco Rubio Rangel spoke about the importance of resolving the binational issues between Tijuana and San Diego .The main factors were the hundreds of immigrants that are looking for political asylum in the United States and are currently stranded in Tijuana. Another important thing that was discussed was border crossings, whose long lines have created traffic issues in most of the city.
For his part, Orlando López Acosta spoke about the national issues regarding water issues. During his intervention, referring directly to Secretary Adan Augusto López, he said that Baja California has kept itself as Mexico’s strong arm, working only among Baja Californians, i.e., without federal support. The water shortages in Ensenada and San Quintin were mentioned mainly by López Acosta, saying their water supplies are about to be depleted.
Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar thanked the assistance that the federal government has regarding border needs, reiterating that she is willing to work alongside the federal government to address them. She stated the needs that the state of Baja California has. She also added that these three issues have similar importance and they will work to resolve them as soon as possible.
For their part, federal government secretaries spoke with the city’s business sector. Rosa Icela gave a speech about security during this administration. Adán Augusto reiterated the federal government’s support for the state and said that the change in time schedule at the border won’t continue.
During the conference, Tijuana and Ensenada authorities reiterated the importance of the binational relation with the United States. They said that it is an important factor because people cross the border daily and spend their time and energy looking for better wages in the United States. He said that that federal government intervention is important in order to improve conditions.
