Marina del Pilar launches “Respira en tu Colonia” program in Mexicali

This new program’s goal is to create actions that deeply transform the mobility and wellbeing of communities in the state

Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, Baja California Governor, launched the “Respira en tu Colonia” (Breathe In Your Community) program whose goal is to transform people’s mobility in the state by carrying out actions such as restorations of roads with residents themselves participating. The state administration, municipal governments, and the business sector will also participate.

The program’s initial launch took place at Colonia Villa Florida in eastern Mexicali where the governor highlighted, through the Urbanization Council of the State of Baja California, the neighbors who contributed to the creation of this public work through resources. This speeds up work and makes it clear that citizens are interested in collaborating in building something for the wellbeing of everyone.

Moreover, Marina del Pilar stated that many of the “Respira en tu Colonia” program projects are being added to infrastructure municipal programs. Such is the case with Mexicali’s XXIV Municipal Administration, led by mayor Norma Alicia Bustamante Martínez, which will complement works already being carried out in the community.

Ávila Olmeda highlighted that Colonia Villa Florida will invest around 40 million pesos for several infrastructure activities whose main goal is to improve this community’s livability, while at the same time, it is an act of justice, since this has been an old request made by neighbors.

For his part, Secretary of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Territory Redesign, Arturo Espinoza Jaramillo, informed that the program constitutes an important investment for Mexicali, especially so that people’s invested time is spent more in quality of life activities and less in vehicular traveling and traffic.

“This program is about making your community breathe perfectly, so that there is less traffic and more life, so that areas where you receive your home’s utilities can happen safely,” he said and explained that at Colonia Villa Florida 120,000 square meters will be worked on for the next three months.

The following people were present at the event: beneficiaries Hortencia Barajas, María López, and Claudia Arreola, as well as Urbanization Director, Armando Carrasco; Baja California’s State Congress Representative, Víctor Hugo Navarro Gutiérrez; Secretary of the XXIV Municipal Administration of Mexicali, Daniel Valenzuela, and Mexicali Councilor, Óscar Vega Marín.
