On Thursday, May 12, the US government, through Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, Todd Robinson, revealed that they found a drug tunnel in the Mexican border with California.
Because of this, US Ambassador in Mexico, Ken Salazar, said that traffickers are smart which is why the governments of Mexico and the US must be smarter when facing this issue that affects both countries.

Joint work between Mexico and the US is key to dismantling the criminal organizations that use these tunnels to transport drugs. Cooperation with Mexico helps catch criminals bringing drugs north and guns south.
It should be noted that, according to media outlet El Universal, the drug tunnel was found connecting the city of Tijuana with Otay Mesa.
The drug addiction crisis in the Unites States continues to increase and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that in 2021, there were more than 100,000 deaths due to drug addiction, being, historically, the highest number ever.
Because of this, it is important that both countries collaborate when fighting drug trafficking, as indicated by a binational agreement that took place last January. This includes not only drug trafficking from Mexico to the United States, but weapons brought from the United States into Mexico.
