San Diego citizens are causing housing to be more expensive in Baja California

People moving from San Diego could be one of the main causes of rising prices

A recent report published by BBVA revealed that Baja California has registered a 10.2% housing price increase in the fourth quarter of 2021, making it one of the 10 states with the highest price increase nationwide.

It is predicted that housing costs will increase two digits in Baja California , and the reason for this may be because of San Diego citizens moving here in the last few years.

All of this makes Baja California a part of the “domino effect”; moving happens because housing is very expensive in San Diego. Renting in San Diego is up to $1500 dollars per month for a studio like apartment.

As we once told you in a previous article , the Mexican Consulate in San Diego has claimed that dozens of San Diego residents have begun to carry out their moving processes to Tijuana day by day, despite the countless logistical traffic effects of moving to the other side of the border.

Comparing housing prices between both sides of the border, Tijuana is more affordable since it has apartment buildings with more space at more affordable prices, costing a fraction of what one would pay in San Diego.

We shouldn’t forget that Tijuana is also very close to the San Ysidro Border Crossing, which makes it a geographical and economical attraction for American citizens.

However, this is creating a discouraging scenario for Baja Californian residents, because San Diego citizens’ high housing demand have caused housing to become unaffordable for Mexican residents.
