During the daily morning press conference’s segment “Who’s who: prices of the basic basket” where Ricardo Sheffield, head of the Federal Consumer Agency (PROFECO) reveals the price of 21 products of the basic basket from different marts in the four regions of the country, he revealed where are the highest and lowest prices so that people can choose where to buy their groceries. After almost three weeks, Tijuana is once again in the most expensive list of northern Mexico.

The basic basket consists of 21 products that can supply a family of four for one week. According to El Financiero, these products are: : corn tortillas, beans, rice grains, fresh whole chicken, beefsteak, pork chops, serrano pepper, onions, tomatoes, apples, limes, melons, bread, potatoes, carrots, brown sugar, soup pasta, toilet paper, and soap.

Soriana Súper, located in Rampa Ruiz Cortínez s/n of Colonia Libertad returned to the list as one of the most expensive places to buy the basic basket in the northern part of the country . Here, the aforementioned products can be purchased at a price of $966.95 pesos.

This time, however, this Tijuana supermarket did not lead the list, but instead was in third place, making it the third most expensive supermarket in all of northern Mexico, which includes the states of Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Sonora, and Tamaulipas.

Sheffield added that for the second week in a row, the most expensive supermarket in all of Mexico has been Soriana, which has been first place in the lists of all regions, also adding that this doesn’t help common people. Last week, the head of PROFECO said that this supermarket chain has “gone off the charts” with their price increases.
