Tijuana: La Cacho, in the golden zone, and surroundings under unprecedented violence

Insecurity in the city has risen 6% in the last three months

The insecurity in Tijuana continues to clearly rise, so much that even the “golden zones” are not safe anymore, specifically “La Cacho”, which has been witness to several criminal acts in the last month. The most notable one was the murder of the owner of Taikishi restaurant, Cecilia Rodríguez Rodríguez, who was mugged and then killed in Torre Agua Caliente Plaza, last February 9. This incidence moved several people living in the zone, who are not used to such violence in their neighborhoods.

The golden zones of Tijuana include from Las Palmas, Agua Caliente Residential Area, Colonia Gabilondo, Chapultepec, Colonia Madero (Cacho) all the way to Cumbres de Juárez, Cubillas and Zona Río.

However, violence has spread to the surroundings of the Cacho area. This Thursday afternoon, in Fundadores Boulevard, a shootout occurred in a funeral home with one person dead. Meanwhile, residents of Sirak Baloyan Avenue have begun to raise their voices as they have been victims of robberies, with several muggings of young people being reported.

It should be noted that, a few months ago, neighbors of Colonia Madero (known as “La Cacho”) have been reporting an increase in robberies, mugging, and murders, though this place had been well known as being more secure than other areas, which is why it is part of the golden zone.

Mayor Monserrat Caballero has been completely absent and apathetic regarding security in Tijuana, with this city being one of the most unsafe cities in the world.

Lastly, Roberto Quijano Sosa, President of the Public Safety Citizen Council of Baja California, revealed in a press conference that there has been a 6% increase of insecurity in Tijuana, from December 2021 to February 2022.
