The transit authorities indicated that the ascent and descent of passengers would be relocated to address the recent agglomerations in the descending zone of the San Ysidro Garita, which causes public transportation and private automobiles to enter the border.
During a news conference, Javier Delgado Garibay, the head of the Municipal Sustainable Urban Mobility Secretariat, said that a 300-meter walkway would be built for pedestrians to be picked up by their families in one of the adjacent streets, with public transportation in the same area.
He went on to say that the proposed modifications will assist inhabitants by avoiding long lines to exit the neighborhood, which is now home to over 73 thousand people each week.
It should be noted that the El Chaparral crossing has been closed as a result of the migrant camp, causing lengthier queues at the San Ysidro checkpoint to pass into the United States, prompting the authorities to devise a new plan to reduce vehicle traffic in the region.
