Lack of CBP personnel for border reopening: Mayor of San Diego

The mayor of San Diego reported that a current problem at the border port is the lack of CBP agents

Last Tuesday, the White House received San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, who planned to discuss several issues of local relevance: one of these, the reopening of the border with its neighbor and trading partner Tijuana, Baja California.

In this regard, the mayor pointed out to Telemundo that one of the biggest problems for border reopening and in general is the lack of CBP personnel at the ports of entry to San Diego, as well as the lack of resources.

Regarding the lack of CBP agents, a few months ago it was reported that due to the coronavirus pandemic, the training and education of agents was interrupted. As a result, there are no trained personnel at the crossings, and those that do exist are also dealing with the migratory situation.

This has caused lines to close and transit to the United States to increase considerably; travelers report up to 4 hours almost daily.

On the other hand, Mayor Gloria pointed out that the decision to continue with the border restrictions has impacted commerce in the region in a very negative way, as hundreds of businesses have had to close and hundreds more are barely surviving.
