The State Commission of Public Services of Tijuana (CESPT) informed that it has concluded the repair works of the sewage sump in Playas de Tijuana, so now the area is free of sewage spills.

The preventive closure of the beach took place on September 3 due to sewage that was flowing into the sea and endangering the health of beach visitors.

A power failure by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) caused one of the pumping facilities to be shut down.

The contamination problem in Playas de Tijuana has persisted for a long time. Environmental organizations have monitored and determined that sea pollution in the area far exceeds the permitted limit, especially in the Real del Mar region.

1,800 liters of water per second come daily from the Punta Bandera treatment plant, but the waste has already exceeded its capacity.

The problem increases with the new real estate developments in the area because they discharge wastewater directly.
