Baja California: new shipment for first doses could take up to 2 months

The State Secretary of Health assured that 100% of the vaccine arriving will be for second doses

If you are one of those who are waiting for another vaccine to arrive in Baja California to go for your first dose, other than Johnson & Johnson, the head of the State Secretariat of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico, made it clear that, "you are going to run out of vaccines for weeks".

This is due to the fact that the rest of the country has to be vaccinated and therefore, weeks will go by without the arrival of a shipment of vaccines destined for the first time in the region. "I am not talking about one or two, I am talking about six to eight weeks," he said.

More shipments of Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinovac vaccines are expected to arrive soon, however, he said that "100% of the vaccine is for the second dose".

Pérez Rico expressed that having received one million 350 thousand vaccines from Johnson & Johnson was a unique opportunity, and today is the last day to take advantage of it, since in addition to the fact that there is no more of this vaccine in the country, the one that arrives from the United States will be for the other border cities of Mexico.

Finally, he said that once the vaccines from the different pharmaceutical companies arrive to Baja California to apply the second dose, "we will be the first state (in Mexico) to vaccinate 100% of its population".

As of yesterday's cutoff, the state has 59.63% of the population fully vaccinated.
