Mayor of Tijuana, Karla Ruiz, inaugurates mural in honor of the medical field

The mayor of Tijuana inaugurated a mural on the C. Juan Ojeda Robles bridge

Karla Ruiz Macfarland inaugurated a mural by the Independencia Rotary Club. The purpose of the mural is to pay tribute to the health and civil protection personnel for their help in the fight against the coronavirus.

During the event, the Mayor expressed her pride in the fact that Tijuana has a green light and has begun vaccinating the population between the ages of 18 and 39, which is gradually returning to daily activities, without neglecting preventive actions.

She also recognized the importance of collaboration between civil society and municipal authorities, as a link through which "great things" can be done, as in this case, in which the Independencia Rotary Club adopted a green area and also left a permanent tribute to the medical field.

The President of Club Rotario Independencia, Salvador Castellanos Sánchez, pointed out that they have been helping the community with different works and activities for more than 35 years, mainly focused on family development. The mural, he said, was an initiative that the club carried out with the support of one of its members, Azucena Castañón Pura, who is not only an outstanding artist in the city, but also an art teacher.

For her part, Castañón explained that the work is figurative and is composed of various characters, such as doctors, nurses, first aid workers, administrative staff, volunteers, policemen, firemen, as well as all the people who work in hospitals, so that each one of them, when they see it when they cross the fast lane, feel represented.

He pointed out that the title "Giving of oneself without thinking of oneself" is a Rotary motto that defines its characteristic activities, so the mural is a way to thank the spirit of service of those who have made an effort to fight COVID-19, and also to honor those who unfortunately lost their lives.

At the inauguration of the mural, which is located on the C. Juan Ojeda Robles Bridge, between Via Oriente and Padre Kino, there were members of the Rotary Club, painters and municipal authorities who collaborated in its elaboration.
