The Mayor of Tijuana, Karla Ruiz MacFarland is committed to helping women who live in situations of violence and this Friday she announced the signing of an agreement with the Inter-institutional Network of Psychosocial Support and Legal Strengthening for women in situations of violence.

This event was attended by different representatives of the most important universities in our city: Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, Centro Universitario de Tijuana, Cesun Universidad, among others.

One of the main reasons for this determination to prioritize the mental health of victims of violence is due to the frequency with which the Municipal Women's Institute receives victims of abuse. According to information provided at a press conference, 9 out of 10 women who come to this institute have some type of mental health problem or live with violence.

The general purpose of this initiative is to generate certainty on the part of ethical professionals who work hand in hand with the Municipal Women's Institute so that women receive first level attention and can follow up on any situation they may face.

For her part, the municipal president, Karla Ruiz MacFarland, said she was very excited about this program and thanked those present. She affirmed that in the short time she has been in government she has realized that Tijuana is a beautiful, diverse and very complex city, so building bridges between the different areas can be of great benefit to citizens.

"Here in Tijuana people come from different states, from different countries with different personalities and I have learned that it is beautiful, that those differences instead of separating us, instead of having that argument of mine is better than yours... these differences can unite us." said Ruiz MacFarland when taking the floor.

She ended by sharing that each of the areas involved in this process, has its priorities and that the important thing will be to focus them on what is essential, which is the mental health of people who have lived or live day to day with problems of violence.
