The Secretariat of Health announced the arrival to Mexican soil of shipment number 40 of Pfizer/BioNTech laboratories at 8:46 a.m., which were traveling on flight CVG MEX 952 from the city of Cincinnati, located in the state of Ohio, United States.
It was also confirmed that the shipment consisted of 288 thousand 990 vaccines against COVID-19, which added to the deliveries previously received from the pharmaceutical company, giving a total of 16 million 397 thousand 745 doses. Through Twitter, the Mexican government also confirmed the arrival of the biologicals and showed some pictures of the reception process.

In total, 67 shipments have been received from different pharmaceutical companies in 81 flights, with most of the international airports where the drugs arrive being those located in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey and Queretaro.
With 126 million inhabitants, Mexico has contracts to receive 34.4 million doses from Pfizer/BioNTech; 79.4 million from AstraZeneca, created in the United Kingdom; 35 million from CanSino and 20 million from SinoVac, both developed in China; with regard to Sputnik V, an amount of around 24 million and 51.4 million more drugs are expected from the Covax mechanism (COVID-19 Global Access Fund for Vaccines).
For the moment, the vaccination campaign in the country has contemplated 3 sectors of the population: adults over 60 years of age, people between 50 and 59 years of age and more recently has begun with the immunization of individuals between 40 and 49 years of age, not counting medical personnel who were considered as a priority for the administration of the dose, as well as education professionals and pregnant women.
In the last 24 hours, Mexico reported 34 deaths caused by the SARS CoV-2 virus, as well as 881 more infections, reaching a total of 228 thousand 838 deaths and 2 million 434 thousand 562 confirmed cases. It is worth mentioning that this daily death toll has been the lowest recorded since the beginning of the pandemic.
