San Diego Mayor, CBP and DHS meet to discuss border restrictions

The San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce thanked the officials for addressing these issues of vital importance to the local economy

If there is one association that has been keeping an eye on what is happening with border crossings since the pandemic began, it has been the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce. It has even been in contact with those in charge of deliberating when and under what conditions the border will be opened.

Recently, from their official website, they published a statement in which they thanked Congressman Henry Cuellar and San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria for addressing the issue of reopening the border. In addition, they revealed that officials are holding meetings with the Border Patrol (CBP) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for the lifting of border restrictions.

Special thanks to Mayor Todd Gloria and Congressman Henry Cuellar of Texas, who have had several meetings recently with DHS and other government officials, including the leading U.S. expert on COVID, Dr. Anthony Fauci.

According to the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce, the border restrictions "defy logic," as this does not really represent disease control, as about 100 thousand people continue to cross the border between California and Baja California. In addition, studies conducted since August of last year showed that infection rates in Tijuana were no higher than in the rest of South San Diego.

Likewise, they informed that this Thursday a meeting will be held with the participation of government officials where they will discuss this issue of vital importance for the economic reactivation of the area. And you, do you think we are close to a reopening of the border for non-essential travel?

With information from the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce.
