The virtual meeting between the President of Mexico and the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, is approaching, where they will discuss migration issues among which stand out issues such as the opening of the border between the countries. In this regard, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, assured those listening to his morning conference that the travel restrictions between the United States and our country have affected the neighboring country more economically.

In fact, some businesses have closed in San Diego since the restrictions were implemented: Tamarindo Latin Kitchen & Bar, Donovan's Steak & Chophouse, Ebisu Sushi, Troy's Family Restaurant and the famous Souplantation.

He affirmed that it is of mutual interest that the border be opened due to the fact that "businesses on the U.S. side have been affected more than on our side". He added that this is an issue on which both countries agree and that he wished other issues could be dealt with as easily as this one.

Regarding the reopening of non-essential crossings, it has been said that they will not return unless the Mexican border states are in the green color of the epidemiological traffic light chart. The status of the border will be updated on May 21.

At the moment, Baja California has a total of 47 thousand 872 registered cases of COVID-19 and mourns the death of 8 thousand and 61 people. The vaccination campaign has already begun, but it is going slowly because the amount of vaccines is limited.

This scenario is very different from that of California, where the vaccination campaign has already reached the general population over 16 years of age. In this regard, citizens are reminded that most vaccination points in San Diego no longer require appointments to apply the vaccine.
