The Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo Lopez-Gatell, assures that although a radical increase in cases of COVID-19 was avoided after the Easter holiday period, the Secretariat of Health will not rule out the possibility of a third wave of infections until the pandemic has come to an end.
In the week following the Easter vacations, authorities reported an 8% increase in registered infections, but this April 26th the week began with a 28% reduction, said the highly motivated undersecretary, who emphasizes with regret that as the week progresses the decrease will become less noticeable.
Even though Lopez-Gatell raised an alert to the Mexican people days before Easter Week for the arrival of a third wave of COVID-19, possibly caused by the great mobility that occurs during the Easter vacation period, the increase in registered cases was notorious, but not enough to formally establish the beginning of a new outbreak in the pandemic that has been experienced since March of last year in the Mexican Republic.
The official stressed that despite the fact that the pandemic situation in Mexico may lead to thoughts where the risk of contracting the disease "is over", the reality is that is until the pandemic is over in its entirety the compliance of sanitary measures continues to be of vital importance.
"Let's hope that the third wave does not arrive, if it does not arrive it will be joyful but it will not be because the preventive measures have been loosened (...) We must remain attentive to what is happening at all times and continue with the precautionary measures"- mentioned Gatell during the daily conference of the COVID-19 pandemic development in the country. As long as the coronavirus continues to be present in Mexico, together with the emergence of new SARS CoV-2 mutations, the danger of contracting the disease persists, so the SSa called on citizens to maintain restrictions by adhering to the epidemic traffic light that is indicated in their state.
The third wave of coronavirus has already reached several European nations, such as Spain and the United Kingdom, as well as some regions of Asia, where the state of India stands out, a country that has registered record after record in reported contagions and daily deaths, so the Mexican government suggested not to think that our country has been completely spared from a resurgence of the disease.
