Initiative seeks to reduce wait times at border crossings into San Diego

The proposal seeks to improve commerce and facilitate transit for those who have an active border life.

The San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce has always advocated for maintaining active border commerce and as part of its new initiative hopes to petition CBP to speed up the wait time between Tijuana and San Diego.

Currently, the wait time can vary from a few minutes to several hours, which complicates the time for U.S. citizens living in Tijuana who sometimes have to wait several hours to get to their workplace.

In addition, at the crosswalk to San Ysidro the lines have very little space to produce an acceptable social distance and sometimes they have to spend hours in reduced locations, not very advisable in these times of pandemic.

On the other hand, the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce has invited citizens to fill out this survey, which is completely anonymous. Through this survey this survey and the data collected, it is hoped that the Border Patrol will expedite crossings.

This is not the first show of support for the border community that the Chamber has expressed. The association has been one of the most active on non-essential travel restrictions between Mexico and the United States, and on more than one occasion has proposed that citizens with tourist visas be allowed to transit the border and bring about a complete economic revival of the area.
