Tijuana

Tijuana and San Diego work together to develop strategies to face the new normality.

Some of the topics discussed at the meeting between the Tijuana City Council and the mayors of San Diego, Chula Vista and National City were: economic reactivation, health, education and security.

Members of the Tijuana City Council met with mayors of San Diego, Chula Vista and National City in U.S. territory to establish a joint plan to face the return to the new normality after the COVID-19 pandemic that continues to hit the world since early 2020, where issues such as economic recovery, health, education, security, tourism, mobility and projects on the streamlining of the border crossing, were protagonists.

The first meeting was held with Mary Salas, mayor of Chula Vista, the second largest municipality in San Diego County, which shares common projects with Tijuana such as authentic Mexican cuisine, craft beer production and outdoor activities.

This first approach will be one of many that will facilitate the fraternity between both cities due to their similarity in several aspects, since it is an area where there is a large concentration of Mexicans seeking a better quality of life.

The next visit was with Todd Gloria, Mayor of San Diego, to whom the issues that arise in the municipality of Tijuana correspond in a closer way, in addition, they discussed the planning of the "Border Mayors" (meeting of the Association of Mayors of the United States-Mexico Border), before the current local government ends its administration.

The last meeting of the Tijuana City Council was with Alejandra Sotelo Solis, Mayor of National City. Both authorities had already had a virtual meeting. Among the topics discussed in this new meeting was to establish strategies for a coordinated work of the two cities on issues that impact the border region.
