Authorities of the municipality of Ensenada in Baja California, informed that only on Thursday, the day corresponding to Holy Week, visitors to Playa Hermosa and La Mision left a ton of garbage on this day, waste that was collected by personnel of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (ZOFEMAT).

Despite the fact that Playa Hermosa is closed for recreational use in the water, there were quite a few visitors who left trash, authorities said.

"The beach of La Mision had a lot of visitors, therefore, about a thousand kilos of garbage were collected, much of it not deposited in the appropriate places and left exposed to reach the sea," said Hernan King Espinoza, head of ZOFEMAT.

However, it is estimated that this Good Friday about 1.5 tons of garbage will be collected, of which about 400 kilos will be in Playa Hermosa and the other one thousand 100 kilos of garbage in La Misión.

Hernán King called on local and foreign tourists who visit beaches or any public space to keep them in optimal conditions for recreational use, because although the Government of Ensenada has the commitment to their maintenance, this action should be a shared responsibility with the population.

He also urged the population to reinforce preventive measures, maintain a distance of 1.5 meters, and wear a mask, to mention some of them.
