Relations with foreign leaders have improved since the appointment of Karla Ruiz as Mayor of Tijuana.

The mayor of Tijuana continues to surprise citizens by making a contrast with the administration of her predecessor. Karla Ruiz Macfarland has made an effort to maintain excellent relations with San Diego leaders, something she has accomplished just a few weeks into her administration.

Karla Ruiz, who has strengthened ties not only with the state government (something her predecessor never achieved), but has also held conversations with one of the most important American leaders in the region: Todd Gloria, mayor of San Diego, with whom she held a meeting via zoom just at the beginning of her mayoral term.

"We will work in favor of the communities on both sides of the border to strengthen the economic and social union of the region," said Ruiz Macfarland at the end of the meeting held in February.

The Mayor of Tijuana has also participated in the South County Economic Development Council to present the municipality's actions. This event gives importance and aims to encourage private investment and promote commercial development, in addition to publicizing cultural, educational and social opportunities in the region.

On the other hand, she has also made a commitment to the welfare of people affected by migration and together with Ximena Escobedo, general director of Interior Policy Coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they have worked with the coordinator for southern border affairs in the US National Security Council, Roberta Jacobson, to seek a solution to the border issue.

This Wednesday the Mayor even received Sue Saarnio, Consul General of the United States in Tijuana at the inauguration of the First Reception Shelter for Unaccompanied Children and Adolescents in the Context of Mobility in Tijuana, a project carried out together with the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef).

In addition to this, she also maintains good relations with other leaders of the foreign communities; an example of this was the work carried out by the City Council together with the Korean Community, carrying out a reforestation of the Morelos Park.
